Cross River man wanted after allegedly setting mother ablaze

A man identified as Emmanuel Akposi (also referred to as Emmanuel Etim) is wanted by police after allegedly setting his elderly mother on fire in the Ojo community of Akamkpa Local Government Area, Cross River State.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, following the death of the suspect's daughter. According to reports, the suspect accused his mother, Mrs. Atim Eyo, of witchcraft and being responsible for the child's death. Witnesses stated that the suspect confronted her, attempted to strangle her, and then doused her with fuel before setting her ablaze.

Mrs. Eyo was rushed to several medical facilities, including the Akamkpa General Hospital and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where she died on Monday. The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.
