Cross River Police arrest security guard for alleged assault of five-year-old

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old security guard, identified as Bright Bassey Elijah, for the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old pupil in Calabar. The incident was reported to authorities on September 28 by the proprietress of a local nursery and primary school.

According to police spokesperson ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the suspect was allegedly caught leading the child to an uncompleted building near the school premises where the assault occurred. Elijah is currently in police custody, and the command plans to transfer him to the State Criminal Investigation Department following preliminary inquiries.

Authorities stated they are treating the case with high priority due to the age of the victim. Police have urged the public to report suspected child abuse immediately and cautioned against sharing any identifying information or photographs of the child to protect her privacy and welfare.
