Cross River Police arrest two men for alleged attempted rape of a minor
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two men, aged 68 and 70, following allegations of attempted rape involving a 12-year-old girl in Calabar. The suspects have been identified as Moris Monday, a shoe repairer, and Asuquo Effiom.
According to police spokesperson ASP Sunday Eitokpah, preliminary investigations suggest that Monday allegedly lured the victim into his room to attempt sexual assault on August 13 and 14, 2026. Effiom is also accused of luring the minor into his room for a similar attempt on August 22, 2026.
Following a report from the victim’s father, investigators located the suspects in the custody of community members near the Thomas Henshaw Junction in the Hokins Road area. While the suspects have denied the allegations in their statements to the police, the victim has been referred to a government-approved medical facility for examination. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
