Cross River State officials deny funding and security allegations

Officials in Cross River State have denied allegations regarding the mismanagement of funds and improper security arrangements. Chief Yibala Inyang, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, dismissed claims that local councils are being underfunded. He stated that the 18 councils are experiencing unprecedented financial support and administrative freedom under Governor Bassey Edet Otu, noting that the joint state-local government account ensures councils can meet salary obligations.

Separately, the Commissioner for Information, Ekpenyong Cobham, refuted reports suggesting the state government has been making payments to cult groups to maintain peace. Cobham challenged critics to provide verifiable evidence, including identities and documentation, to support such claims, describing the allegations as unsubstantiated rumors.
