Cross River State seeks FAAN partnership to upgrade Margaret Ekpo International Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Governing Board, led by Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, recently visited Cross River State to discuss the development of Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar.

Governor Bassey Edet Otu is seeking a strategic partnership with FAAN to upgrade airport facilities and improve flight efficiency. These improvements are intended to prepare the state for the 6th African Sub-Sovereign Governments Network (AfSNET) Investment Conference, scheduled for November 12–14, 2026. The conference is expected to draw approximately 2,000 guests from roughly 19 African countries and the Caribbean.

During the visit, the FAAN delegation inspected ongoing infrastructure projects, including a runway upgrade and a newly installed 500KVA solar power system. Governor Otu also presented a Ford Ranger pickup vehicle to the airport management to support operational activities and service delivery.
