Crotone approves waterway maintenance to mitigate hydraulic risk

The Crotone municipal government has approved a memorandum of understanding with Calabria Verde to perform maintenance on local waterways to mitigate hydraulic risk. Proposed by Mayor Vincenzo Voce, the agreement follows joint technical inspections that identified critical areas requiring immediate attention.

The planned interventions focus on approximately 3.5 kilometers of the Esaro River and specific work at the mouth of the Passovecchio torrent. Maintenance activities will include clearing invasive, shrub, and tree vegetation, as well as maintaining riverbeds and banks to ensure proper water flow.

Under the agreement, Calabria Verde will provide mechanical equipment and forestry labor. The Municipality of Crotone will manage project requirements, obtain necessary authorizations, and cover fuel and consumption costs. Funding for these territorial protection activities will be sourced from an agreement with Eni.
