Crotone Archbishop addresses job insecurity and youth emigration
During the feast of San Dionigi, the patron saint of Crotone, Archbishop Alberto Torriani delivered a homily addressing the social and economic challenges facing the community. He issued a call to action regarding job insecurity, poverty, and the responsibility of local institutions to support vulnerable citizens.
Torriani specifically highlighted the issue of precarious employment and the lack of stable work opportunities, which he noted creates a silent oppression that strips individuals of their dignity. He expressed particular concern for the youth, many of whom feel compelled to emigrate due to a lack of professional prospects and a sense of uncertainty regarding their future in the region.
The Archbishop distinguished between utopia and vision, stating that while utopia imagines a non-existent perfect world, a true vision allows one to look deeply at reality and take responsibility for necessary changes. He urged the community and political leaders not to become accustomed to inequality or the departure of young people.
