Italian Coast Guard Seizes Illegal Site in Strongoli, Beach Business Suspended in Cutro

During the coastal‑security operation “Mare e Laghi sicuri 2026”, the Crotone Coast Guard seized about 60 square metres of public land in Strongoli that had been illegally occupied by a fish‑shop owner. The person had built a removable wooden platform covered with synthetic grass and cement tiles without any permit. The area was placed under seizure and the case referred to the Crotone prosecutor, while the municipality will handle compensation and restoration.

In a separate inter‑force operation called “Focus ’Ndrangheta”, police, Carabinieri, the financial police, the Coast Guard and the regional labour inspectorate inspected a beach establishment in Cutro. The inspection uncovered a worker employed without a proper contract, resulting in a €2,500 administrative fine and a suspension of the business pending further inquiry. The Coast Guard also levied a €1,032 fine for the absence of required sea buoys. Both actions are part of broader efforts to curb illegal occupation and criminal infiltration of tourism‑related activities in Calabria.
