Crotone eating disorder service faces funding expiration

The specialized service for nutrition and eating disorders (DNA) at the Crotone mental health center faces potential closure as its current funding extension expires at the end of September.

Local movement Demos Crotone has raised alarms regarding the precariousness of this strategic facility, which serves the entire province and parts of Calabria. The service has treated hundreds of patients over the last 18 months, approximately 80% of whom are adolescents suffering from conditions such as anorexia and bulimia.

Demos is calling on the Asp of Crotone and the Calabria Region to move away from temporary extensions and extraordinary funding, instead utilizing ordinary funds to make the service a permanent, structural part of the regional healthcare system to ensure continuity of care.
