Crotone Hospital launches Emodinamica unit, performs lifesaving procedures
The San Giovanni di Dio Hospital in Crotone inaugurated a new Emodinamica (cardiovascular emergency) unit on 28 July 2026. The service, aimed at reducing patient transfers to other provinces, operates initially from 08:00 to 20:00 with a target of 24‑hour coverage. It is staffed by five specialist doctors and a dedicated nursing team, after recruiting 36 interventional cardiologists, some from outside the region.
In its first five days the unit performed 20 emergency cardiovascular procedures, including five angioplasties. Two high‑risk cases were highlighted: a 44‑year‑old man from Turin who was transferred to the operating theatre within 30 minutes and successfully treated for a coronary occlusion, and a 36‑year‑old woman who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was stabilised before undergoing primary angioplasty. Both patients remain in hospital with improving conditions. Director General Antonio Graziano described the Emodinamica as an indispensable lifesaving presumption for the territory, emphasizing its immediate impact on patient safety and regional emergency response.
