Italy allocates €970 million for public housing renovation under new Piano Casa

The Italian government has launched the new “Piano Casa” programme, earmarking €970 million for the period 2026‑2030 to fund extraordinary maintenance of public residential housing and the recovery of public buildings for social housing. The plan aims to renovate and repurpose existing public housing stock, improve living conditions and increase the supply of affordable homes. Work on the first construction sites is expected to begin between January and March 2027, with some interventions possibly starting before the end of 2026. At a national conference of architects in Rome, the Crotone provincial Order of Architects highlighted the strategic importance of the programme for urban regeneration, while the extraordinary commissioner Felice Squitieri presented the implementation schedule. The rollout will involve a collaboration with Invitalia for the preparation of calls and selection criteria, and accelerated procedures are planned for complex projects to shorten administrative timelines.
