Crotone hosts Sailors for Kids sailing education project
The Sailors for Kids itinerant project, led by journalist and sailor Davide Besana, recently visited Crotone to promote sailing as an educational tool for youth. Besana, who has traveled approximately 1,800 miles on his sailboat, met with Mayor Vincenzo Voce and Sports Councilor Luca Bossi to discuss the potential for the city to become a permanent stop in the initiative.
The project aims to connect children and teenagers with the sea through navigation, socialization, and creativity. During stops at various Italian ports, Besana organizes small flotillas that allow local youth to experience sailing firsthand. This experience is designed to offer a new perspective on their own cities from the sea.
Following the maritime activities, participants engage in creative expression by documenting their experiences through drawings, comics, photography, and video. The initiative focuses on three core pillars: experience, emotion, and storytelling, using sport and the sea to stimulate curiosity and personal expression.
