Crotone officials seek to unblock 18 million euros for Farina landfill remediation

The Third Council Commission of Crotone has approved a motion to address bureaucratic delays regarding environmental remediation and public health safety in the region. The initiative seeks to resolve a stalemate that threatens to stall critical land reclamation and safety projects.

The motion calls upon the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to promptly appoint a Special Delegate Commissioner for the Crotone-Cassano-Cerchiara Site of National Interest (SIN). This appointment is deemed essential to ensure operational continuity for the remediation structure.

Additionally, the motion urges the Mayor and the City Council to request that the Calabria Region grant the necessary authorization to utilize funds already allocated in the municipal budget. These resources, totaling 18 million euros, are intended for the acquisition of land at the former Farina landfill to facilitate permanent safety measures. While the executive project has been authorized, the lack of a commissioner and regional clearance risks halting the administrative procedures required to begin work.
