Crotone police assault prompts inquiry into staffing levels
Following an assault on police officers in Crotone on September 21, M5S Vice President Vittoria Baldino has submitted an inquiry to the Minister of the Interior regarding police staffing levels and resources.
The incident occurred on via Regina Margherita, where an individual in a state of physical and mental alteration damaged parked vehicles with an iron post before attacking members of the Squadra Volanti. Four officers were injured, two of whom sustained serious wounds.
Baldino, supported by deputies Anna Laura Orrico and Riccardo Tucci, highlighted a pattern of heavy reliance on extraordinary service shifts to manage high volumes of identity checks and vehicle inspections in the weeks leading up to the attack. The inquiry seeks clarification on the actual personnel assigned to the Crotone Police Headquarters and the current gap between existing staff and the official organizational plan.
