Crotone swimming pool management and renovation costs face scrutiny

The management and renovation of the Olympic swimming pool in Crotone have become subjects of local controversy. Regarding operational costs, municipal authorities and the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) have confirmed that new access tariffs for municipal sports facilities will remain unchanged, despite protests from local sports clubs and families. Officials stated that no reductions or discounts will be applied to the established rates.

Simultaneously, the renovation of the former CONI swimming pool is facing scrutiny due to significant cost increases. The “Per la Nostra Crotone” council group has contested a project variant that has raised work costs by approximately 39.65%, increasing the budget from 4.13 million euros to over 5.72 million euros. The total economic framework is estimated to reach over 6.8 million euros, exceeding the initial 6.2 million euro funding. One major driver of the increase is the decision to replace a polycarbonate roof with a glass solution, adding over 1.1 million euros to the costs. The council group has announced it will send the relevant documents to the Court of Auditors to seek clarification on the project's management.
