Crotone transport protests suspended on SS 106 highway

Heavy vehicles have been removed from protest sites on the SS 106 highway in the Passovecchio and Sant'Anna di Isola Capo Rizzuto areas of Crotone. Following mediation by Calabria Region President Roberto Occhiuto, the Crotone Vice-Prefect Ester Libertini, and Police Chief Renato Panvino, transport companies have resumed regular travel to supply local businesses.

While heavy trucks have cleared the roadway, some tractors remain on roundabouts as a symbolic presence. The protesters described the decision to unblock the road as an act of responsibility to avoid penalizing local supplies, though they maintain that their economic struggle continues.

The transport sector is protesting unsustainable operating conditions, including unfair commercial practices and a 50% increase in fuel costs over the past year. They have submitted three primary demands to the Prefecture: a fixed fuel price for professional transport, significant tax relief for businesses and employees, and the reactivation of the Transport Cost Observatory. Protesters warned that if no concrete responses are provided during the scheduled meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure on October 27, mobilization will be immediately reinstated.
