CrowdStrike introduces on-device AI for real-time data classification

CrowdStrike has introduced a new capability within its Falcon Data Security platform to enable real-time, on-device data classification. Developed in collaboration with Intel, the technology utilizes language models running on-device via dedicated AI acceleration hardware, specifically Intel’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

This approach aims to identify sensitive, unstructured information—such as chat logs, medical records, and AI prompts—by understanding context and meaning rather than relying solely on predefined patterns like credit card numbers. By processing this data locally, the system seeks to balance model efficacy with computational feasibility while avoiding the latency issues associated with cloud-based inference.
