Crowley expands Southern California fleet with new tug Venture

Crowley has taken delivery of the Venture, a new chartered tug designed for ship assist and escort operations in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The 82-foot, Jones Act-compliant vessel was built by Diversified Marine, Inc. on the Columbia River.

Powered by twin Caterpillar 3516 EPA Tier IV-compliant engines generating over 6,000 horsepower, the Venture features azimuth stern drive thrusters and provides up to 95 tons of bollard pull. These specifications allow the tug to assist some of the largest vessels operating in North America.

The addition of the Venture strengthens Crowley’s capacity within the San Pedro Bay port complex, a critical trade gateway. The vessel joins the company’s existing West Coast fleet of Tier IV Rapport tugs, including the Athena, Apollo, Hercules, and Artemis.
