Crown Estate launches accelerated tender for Morgan offshore wind project
The Crown Estate has opened an accelerated tender to appoint a new developer for the up‑to‑1.5 GW Morgan offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea after the previous joint‑venture partner withdrew earlier this year. The site, originally awarded in Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 and previously held by EnBW and JERA Nex BP, retained a Development Consent Order achieved in August 2025 and is awaiting a decision on a transmission‑asset DCO linked to the 480 MW Morecambe project.
The tender will use a transparent rising‑clock auction, with the winning bidder required to pay a site‑exclusivity fee over 20 years. The Crown Estate aims to select a preferred developer and award rights by the end of 2026, preserving the substantial progress already made and supporting the UK’s renewable‑energy targets, which could supply power for up to 1.5 million homes and generate jobs across the offshore wind supply chain.
