Crown Prince Christian reflects on royal succession and military service

Crown Prince Christian of Denmark has shared personal reflections on his future role and his recent military service in a major interview marking his 21st birthday. The heir to the throne described the prospect of eventually ascending the throne as “surreal,” noting that while his upbringing prepared him for his destiny, the lack of choice regarding his future can feel constraining.

Christian also detailed his experiences during his four-month military service in the Guard Hussar Regiment. He admitted to feeling extreme nervousness and doubt during his initial training, stating that he “trembled all over” on the way to his assignment. Despite these early challenges and the physical demands of exercises, he developed a strong sense of camaraderie with fellow recruits. Following his initial service, he chose to pursue further training at the officer school and was appointed as a second lieutenant in June 2026.
