Ingrid Alexandra becomes Norway's Crown Princess following King Harald V's death

Following the death of King Harald V at age 89, Norway has undergone a transition in its monarchy. King Haakon VIII has ascended to the throne, and his daughter, Ingrid Alexandra, has assumed the title of Crown Princess.

At 22 years old, Ingrid Alexandra has begun her first official duties, including attending condolence audiences and participating in state council meetings. She has also signed her oath to the Constitution, a requirement that enables her to serve as Regent should the King be unable to perform his duties. As the first woman in the Norwegian monarchy to be directly in the line of succession, her role marks a significant historical shift for the nation.

Amidst these constitutional responsibilities, the Crown Princess is also managing her academic life. She recently returned to study political and social sciences at the University of Oslo after pausing her studies in Sydney to be near her mother, Queen Mette-Marit, who is recovering from a lung transplant. The university has noted that absences due to the death of a close relative may be considered justified.
