Cruise industry generates 1.5 billion euros for Lazio region

A study commissioned by the Cruise Lines International Association (Clia) and conducted by Oxford Economics reveals the economic impact of the cruise industry on the Lazio region in Italy.

The research indicates that cruise tourism generates a total economic output of 1.5 billion euros for Lazio. However, only 234 million euros, or approximately 15%, remains in Civitavecchia, the city hosting Italy’s most important cruise port. The remaining 84% of the economic benefits are distributed among other residents and businesses within the wider region.

Data from the study shows a significant disparity in passenger spending: while the average passenger spends 229 euros in Rome, they spend only 82 euros in Civitavecchia.
