Cruise lines execute major fleet modernization and upgrade projects

The cruise industry is seeing significant fleet modernization efforts from major operators. Almaco Group has completed a turnkey modernization project for Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas at the Damen Shipyard. The project, finished in May 2026, involved extensive upgrades to catering areas, including galleys, pantries, and several bar locations such as Starbucks and El Loco Fresh. Additionally, the project included converting various public spaces and former libraries into new cabin areas and family-type suites across multiple decks.

Separately, Holland America Line is advancing its ‘Holland America Evolution’ program, a $500 million initiative to upgrade six ships in its fleet. As part of this project, the Oosterdam and Zuiderdam will receive new poolside bandstands at their Lido Pools. These venues, which feature retractable glass roofs, are designed to host live musical acts and special events like the company’s signature Orange Party. The broader Evolution program aims to bring Pinnacle Class experiences, including new staterooms and the Grand Dutch Café, to older Vista and Signature class vessels.
