CRUKS system regulates gambling exclusion and casino access
The Central Register for Exclusion of Games of Chance (CRUKS) serves as a tool for responsible gambling, allowing players to self-exclude from casinos for periods ranging from six months to a lifetime. According to the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA), the average registration duration is 13 years, with approximately 35% of registrants choosing a six-month period.
While players can currently access casinos that are not connected to CRUKS, the KSA may make this more difficult in the future to encourage the use of licensed operators. Casinos operating without CRUKS often utilize cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin for payments and operate under different international jurisdictions, which may offer different levels of player protection and regulatory oversight compared to Dutch-licensed casinos.
