Crunch Fitness acquires eight Bay Area clubs, expanding footprint

Crunch Fitness announced the acquisition of eight Bay Area locations from the Bay Area Crunchers franchise group, a deal that closed on August 1. The purchase raises Crunch’s corporate‑owned gyms in the San Francisco Bay Area to 16 clubs and consolidates all regional sites under a single owner.

The acquisition follows the opening of Crunch San Rafael earlier this year and precedes the planned opening of a new club in El Cerrito in the first quarter of 2027. CEO Chequan Lewis said the move deepens the brand’s commitment to a “dynamic fitness market,” while operating partner Brian Calegari, formerly of Bay Area Crunchers, will join Crunch’s corporate team. The expansion is part of Crunch’s broader growth strategy, which includes system‑wide upgrades to equipment, classes and recovery amenities, and adds to a busy year of development for the high‑value, low‑price gym chain that now serves more than 4 million members worldwide.
