Crunchyroll acquires distribution rights for Makoto Shinkai’s next film

Crunchyroll has acquired the worldwide distribution rights for the next feature film by acclaimed anime director Makoto Shinkai. Crunchyroll will co-distribute the project with Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The distribution agreement covers the entire world excluding Asia, with the exception of India. Specific details regarding the film’s title, plot, and release date have not yet been disclosed.

This partnership follows the successful global distribution of Shinkai’s 2023 film, Suzume, which grossed over $300 million worldwide. Shinkai is known for high-profile works such as Your Name and Weathering with You.
