Crunchyroll to discontinue Nintendo Switch app on October 30

Crunchyroll has announced that its official application for the Nintendo Switch will cease to function on October 30, 2026. The service has already been removed from the Nintendo eShop, meaning new users can no longer download the app. Existing users who have the application installed can continue to use it until the October deadline, after which the app will no longer work even for active subscribers.

Crunchyroll has notified subscribers of this change via email, though the company has not provided a specific reason for the discontinuation. Some users have speculated that the move may be related to shifts in Nintendo’s video service strategy, noting that other streaming platforms have also recently left the console.

The decision has caused frustration among fans who utilized the Switch’s portability and OLED screen for anime consumption. Furthermore, the service is currently unavailable on the Nintendo Switch 2, leaving many users without a dedicated console option for the platform once the shutdown is complete. Crunchyroll remains available on other devices, including mobile, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
