Cruz Azul coach Joel Huiqui eyes championship after 5-0 win
Cruz Azul manager Joel Huiqui has expressed strong confidence in his squad's ability to pursue a bicampeonato (back-to-back championship) following a dominant 5-0 victory over FC Juárez in Liga MX's Apertura 2026 tournament. The win, which featured goals from Andrés Montaño, Carlos Rodríguez, Omar Campos, Agustín Palavecino, and Rogelio González, moved the club to fifth place in the general standings with 20 points.
In a recent press conference, Huiqui emphasized the depth and versatility of his roster, stating that “nobody is above the club” and that the team's ability to rotate players effectively is key to their success. He noted that the squad's collective strength allows various players to step in and maintain high performance levels.
Beyond tactical discussions, Huiqui honored a previous commitment to the media by providing tacos to approximately one hundred journalists at La Noria, a gesture intended to thank them for their objectivity. The team now shifts its focus to a midweek away match against Pachuca at Estadio Hidalgo, where they aim to continue their momentum and secure a position for the liguilla.
