Cruz-Diez family demands end to unauthorized use of artwork at Maiquetía Airport

The family and estate of Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez have demanded that the authorities of Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía cease the unauthorized use of elements from his work, ‘Cromointerferencia de color aditivo’.

The dispute arises from the airport's systematic integration of the artwork's chromatic patterns into its institutional identity. The family reports that these specific visual elements have been reproduced and adapted for use in signage, institutional communications, digital platforms, staff uniforms, and the infrastructure of new terminal areas.

The family clarified that their claim does not target the general artistic language of Cruz-Diez, but rather the reproduction of identifiable elements from this specific piece. Created between 1974 and 1978, the installation was designed to interact directly with the airport's architecture, lighting, and passenger movement, making it an inseparable component of the physical space rather than a mere decorative pattern.
