Cruz Pérez Cuéllar calls for Open Parliament to reform Chihuahua Prosecutor's Office

Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, the acting mayor of Ciudad Juárez, has called on the Chihuahua State Congress to convene an ‘Open Parliament’ to discuss the future structure of the state's Prosecutor's Office. He argued that the debate regarding the institution responsible for providing justice to over four million citizens should transcend political parties and individual interests.

Pérez Cuéllar emphasized that the state must first determine which model of prosecution is most effective before selecting specific candidates or profiles. He suggested evaluating whether Chihuahua requires an autonomous Prosecutor's Office or if the current model needs modification based on successful practices in other states.

The proposed Open Parliament would include participation from specialists, universities, bar associations, civil society organizations, victims, business leaders, and political forces. The goal is to analyze various models, their advantages, and their risks to ensure the resulting institution serves the public rather than political power.
