Flamengo advances to Libertadores quarterfinals after beating Cruzeiro

Flamengo has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores after defeating Cruzeiro 2-1 at the Maracanã. Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the aggregate score ended 3-2 in favor of the Rio de Janeiro club.

In the decisive match, Giorgian de Arrascaeta opened the scoring for Flamengo in the first half after an assist from Pedro. Cruzeiro responded early in the second half with a goal from Lucas Romero. However, Samuel Lino secured the victory for Flamengo with a second goal, assisted by Pedro.

The match set a seasonal attendance record at the Maracanã with over 72,000 spectators. Flamengo now awaits the winner of the match between Deportes Tolima and Independiente del Valle to determine their next opponent in the tournament.

In related club news, Cruzeiro announced a contract extension for goalkeeper Otávio through July 2031. Additionally, the club confirmed that goalkeeper Cássio has returned to travel with the squad following his recovery from a knee injury.
