Cruzeiro do Sul: Indigenous youth dies in high-voltage electrical accident

An 18-year-old indigenous man, Alessandro Kaxinawá, died in Cruzeiro do Sul after an electrical accident. According to the 4th Firefighters Battalion, Kaxinawá was using an iron bar to harvest mangoes from a tree when the bar made contact with a high-voltage power line.

The electrical discharge occurred while he was in the tree. Firefighters had to coordinate with the utility company Energisa to shut off the power before they could safely retrieve him using high-altitude rescue techniques. Emergency medical services (Samu) confirmed his death at the scene. Kaxinawá, originally from Jordão, had been in Cruzeiro do Sul for approximately five months to undergo medical examinations.
