Crypto and AI industries influence 2026 U.S. midterm elections

The cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence industries have significantly influenced the 2026 U.S. midterm election cycle. Super political action committees (PACs) representing these sectors spent $127 million across more than 100 primaries, with approximately 90% of the backed candidates winning their respective contests. As a result, one-sixth of the upcoming Congress is expected to have received backing from these interests.

The crypto industry specifically contributed $189 million as of June 30, making it the largest corporate political spender and surpassing its 2024 totals. A primary focus of this spending was the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act. Major contributors include Ripple Labs, which donated approximately $49 million, Crypto.com with $38.6 million, and Coinbase with $35.2 million.

Much of this funding was directed toward super PACs such as Fairshake, which received nearly $137 million. Fairshake operates affiliated PACs including Protect Progress, which focuses on pro-crypto Democratic candidates, and Defend American Jobs, which has supported various Republican and Democratic representatives.
