China inflation rises as Brazil opposition rallies for election

China's economic data for August 2026 indicates a rise in price pressures. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.8% year-on-year, while the Producer Price Index (PPI) increased by 3.8%, marking a reversal of factory-gate deflation. This upward trend in PPI is driven by rising global commodity and oil prices, as well as industrial upgrading initiatives. While the data suggests strengthening underlying demand, it reflects a government-supported recovery rather than an overheated economy.

In Brazil, conservative opposition forces held a large Independence Day demonstration in Sao Paulo. Senator Flavio Bolsonaro used the rally to campaign against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The protest comes as the presidential race tightens, with recent polling showing Lula and Bolsonaro tied at 41% in a hypothetical runoff. The political climate remains tense following the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro and ongoing disputes within the Supreme Court.
