Crypto payment card spending hits record monthly volumes
Crypto payment card usage reached record levels in mid-2026, with spending volumes consistently exceeding $1 billion per month. In August, the sector processed $1.076 billion across approximately 10.67 million transactions, involving over 283,000 unique addresses.
Data indicates a shift toward routine commerce, as the average purchase size reached approximately $100.80. This suggests users are employing stablecoin-backed cards for everyday necessities such as groceries, travel, and subscriptions rather than solely for large, speculative transactions.
RedotPay, a Hong Kong-based firm, emerged as a major market driver, processing roughly $390.1 million in August—about 36% of the total sector volume. The company facilitated 54% of all tracked transactions. Other notable contributors to monthly volume include EtherFi and KAST.
Technically, these cards function by converting tokens like USDC or USDT into local currency before processing the transaction through established networks like Visa or Mastercard. This allows merchants to accept standard card payments without interacting directly with cryptocurrency. While the industry remains small compared to traditional networks, total stablecoin card spending has surpassed $10.9 billion.
