Crypto payment cards reach $759M in monthly spending
Crypto payment card transactions reached $759 million in July 2026, marking a 2.5x increase compared to the previous year. The volume of purchases rose to nearly 9 million transactions, with an average spend of approximately $86 per transaction, reflecting use in everyday consumer activities such as dining and shopping.
USDC has emerged as the dominant stablecoin for these transactions, accounting for 58% of the total spend, followed by USDT at 26%. This represents a major shift from early 2024, when euro-backed stablecoins like EURe held an 88% market share.
Visa currently powers the majority of these programs, operating over 130 stablecoin-linked card programs across more than 50 countries. The ecosystem has also diversified across various blockchain networks; while Gnosis Chain was an early leader, Ethereum Layer 2 Optimism now handles 29% of volume, with Solana and Base each capturing 19%.
While the growth is significant, some data relies on self-reporting from issuers like RedotPay, which contributes a large portion of the transaction volume. The technology allows users to spend stablecoins via traditional networks like Visa and Mastercard, with merchants receiving payments in fiat currency.
