Crypto tax rules tighten in Germany and the US with expanded reporting obligations

In Germany, starting in 2026 crypto exchanges must comply with new transparency rules. The Finanzamt will know more about crypto holders, and there are still avenues for anonymous trades in some cases.

In the United States, as of April 15, 2026, new rules for the crypto sector require central exchanges and custodians to report detailed transaction data to the IRS under the new IRS Form 1099-DA. For holders of DeltaCredits (DCRE), the emphasis shifts to complete documentation of purchases and transfers to ensure tax compliance when moving between platforms.
