Cryptocurrencies face growing mainstream adoption and regulatory scrutiny

Cryptocurrencies are increasingly entering the mainstream, with approximately 63% of survey respondents expecting them to further establish themselves among private investors in the medium term. While high volatility, lack of regulation, and illicit use previously deterred investors, the introduction of frameworks like the MiCA regulation and the availability of services through neobrokers and specialized trading platforms have increased accessibility.

Despite this growth, risks remain significant. Digital assets like Bitcoin and Ether involve substantial price volatility, custody, and fraud risks that differ from traditional bank accounts. While public blockchains use distributed ledgers to function without a central bank, many applications still rely on centralized entities such as trading platforms, wallet providers, and stablecoin issuers.

Public opinion on current protections is divided, with roughly 44% of survey participants viewing existing information requirements regarding investment risks as sufficient, while an equal percentage view them as insufficient. Only about 39% of those surveyed support stricter regulation, though experts emphasize that transparency and professional advice are essential for investor protection as adoption grows.
