Cryptocurrency market capitalization reaches $3 trillion in Q3 rebound

The cryptocurrency market experienced a significant recovery in the third quarter of 2026, ending a three-quarter losing streak. Total market capitalization rose 39.6%, increasing by $840.1 billion to reach $3.0 trillion. This performance represents the strongest quarterly gain since the fourth quarter of 2024.

Much of the quarterly growth occurred in August, which saw a 21.8% jump in market cap. Drivers for this rally included the US Treasury's announcement regarding doubled buybacks of long-dated government bonds and steady net inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs. Despite the rebound, the market faced regulatory hurdles as the CLARITY Act failed a US Senate procedural vote on September 15.

More recent data shows a period of volatility, with total market capitalization falling 3.75% to $2.73 trillion as of October 24. During a 24-hour window, liquidations on exchanges including Binance, Bybit, and OKX totaled $278.1 million, with long positions accounting for $200.6 million of that figure.
