Cryptocurrency market faces correction as Bitcoin and altcoins decline

The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a significant correction. Bitcoin recently tumbled from over $65,000 to close just above $63,200, representing a weekly loss of approximately 3.2%. This decline was partly influenced by Strategy offloading 1,690 bitcoins. Major altcoins also faced downward pressure, with ADA falling 10.6% and XRP dipping below the $1 threshold.

In contrast, Chainlink (LINK) saw a 13% surge following a forecast from Standard Chartered.

Broader market data from 2026 indicates a sustained downturn. The industry lost $304.8 billion in the second quarter, and total market capitalization reached approximately $2.26 trillion in early August. This period has seen a shift in capital from speculative projects toward regulated businesses with established infrastructure. Additionally, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $4.9 billion in net outflows during Q2 2026, and more than 100 projects have closed or entered bankruptcy this year.
