Cryptocurrency market sees massive long position liquidations
The cryptocurrency derivatives market experienced significant volatility, resulting in the liquidation of between $119 million and $188 million in leveraged positions over a 24-hour period. Reports indicate a heavy concentration of liquidations in long positions, which accounted for approximately 71% to 72% of the total volume, signaling a sharp market downturn and a forced unwind of bullish bets.
Bitcoin and Ethereum were the primary drivers of this activity. Bitcoin saw liquidations totaling between $40 million and $45 million, with long positions making up the vast majority of that figure. Ethereum followed with liquidations ranging from $23 million to $28 million.
Altcoins also faced substantial pressure. Notable liquidations occurred in Solana, Zcash, and Ripple. The market activity suggests a broader shift in sentiment as traders reassess risk and leverage amidst downward price pressure.
