MARA Holdings transfers $82.8M in Bitcoin to major exchanges
MARA Holdings, a major publicly traded Bitcoin mining company, has transferred 1,000 BTC, valued at approximately $82.8 million, to the cryptocurrency exchanges Binance and Gate over a five-day period. This movement of assets, identified through blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain, has prompted speculation regarding potential Bitcoin sales by the company to fund operations or repay debt.
While exchange deposits can indicate an intent to sell, they can also be used for liquidity management or custody purposes; no official confirmation of a sale has been made. This follows a significant period of activity for MARA, which reportedly sold approximately 23,093 BTC for $1.63 billion during the first half of 2026.
In the broader market, Bitcoin has experienced significant volatility, recently testing resistance levels near $83,000. While the price has seen recent surges, short sellers have faced substantial liquidations, with some reports indicating nearly $45.7 million in single-day wipeouts for short positions.
