Cryptocurrency robbery suspected in murder of Camilo Séptimo musician

Authorities investigating the murder of Mexican musician Jonathan Samuel Meléndez Ochoa, founder of the band Camilo Séptimo, have identified a new potential motive involving cryptocurrency. Meléndez, known as ‘Honas’, was killed on September 1 in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Estado de México, alongside his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter, and a domestic worker. A six-year-old son survived the attack.

Two men, identified as Diego Sebastián ‘N’ and Gerardo ‘N’, have been detained in connection with the killings. While initial reports suggested a dispute over a 300,000 peso loan, new testimony from Diego Sebastián indicates the motive was a demand for US dollars and access to approximately 30 million pesos in cryptocurrency. Reports suggest the suspect continued to demand these assets even during the commission of the crimes.
