Cryptocurrency tokens worth $1.5 billion set for September 2026 unlocks

The cryptocurrency market is projected to see approximately $1.5 billion worth of token unlocks during the first week of September 2026. This influx of supply involves several major projects, most notably Hyperliquid (HYPE), Sui (SUI), and Ethena (ENA).

Hyperliquid is scheduled for a significant unlock on September 6, with an estimated 9.92 million HYPE tokens potentially becoming available. These tokens, valued at approximately $797 million based on current estimates, are allocated to core contributors. However, historical data suggests that the actual amount of tokens claimed may be lower than the theoretical maximum.

Sui will undergo a cliff unlock on September 1, releasing 13.53 million SUI tokens valued at roughly $9.73 million. These tokens represent 0.33% of the current released supply and are distributed among early contributors.

While these unlocks increase the amount of transferable tokens in the market, they do not necessarily equate to immediate mass selling. The impact on market volatility depends on the distinction between theoretical unlocks, the actual quantity requested by holders, and real market sell pressure.
