Crystal Clean Car Wash, operating from a garage forecourt on Ormiston Road in Tranent, East Lothian, was granted planning permission on the condition that it not use power‑jet washers because of noise concerns from nearby residential properties. The firm has appealed the restriction to the council’s Local Review Body, arguing that the ban limits its commercial potential and that nearby Asda self‑service car washes are not subject to the same rule. Planners upheld the condition, citing the risk of noise affecting the residential amenity of neighbouring homes. The appeal is set for September.

The firm highlighted that pressure washers are standard in modern car‑wash operations and that the restriction hampers its contribution to the local economy. Four objections and seven letters of support were received during the application to lift the ban.
