Crystal Hefner describes coercive control at Playboy Mansion

Crystal Hefner has described experiencing coercive control and feeling ‘absolutely brainwashed’ during her marriage to the late Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. Speaking on the ‘No One Asked Her’ podcast, the 40-year-old former Playmate detailed the rigid lifestyle enforced at the Playboy Mansion.

Hefner stated that the mansion’s environment involved constant surveillance by approximately 70 employees and strict behavioral rules. She noted that a 6:00 p.m. movie night served as a disguised curfew that isolated her from her family and prevented her from gaining basic independence. She described how the public’s positive portrayal of Hefner made her question her own reality, stating, ‘I just thought I was the crazy one because all of the media put Hef on such a pedestal.’

In addition to social restrictions, Hefner recounted being micromanaged regarding her physical appearance, including critiques of her weight and dictates on her clothing and nail polish. She noted that it was only following Hefner’s death in 2017 that she was able to leave the estate.
