Crystal Lake cast discusses character development in horror prequel

Actors Linda Cardellini and Callum Vinson have shared insights into their portrayals of Pamela and young Jason Voorhees in the upcoming television adaptation, ‘Camp Crystal Lake’. During a New York Comic-Con roundtable, the cast discussed moving beyond horror archetypes to present the characters as fully realized human beings.

Cardellini described Pamela’s character through the lens of repressed rage and internal justification rooted in past victimization. Vinson focused on Jason’s humanity, portraying him as an ordinary child with a deep, vulnerable attachment to his mother. Executive producer Brad Caleb Kane noted that the production aims to develop characters collaboratively with writers and actors to ensure they function as people rather than mere tropes.

The series, an adaptation of the Friday the 13th franchise, explores the backstory of the iconic mother-son duo. Early episode details suggest the narrative will focus on the domestic life of the characters and the bullying Jason faces at the camp, setting the stage for the franchise's established horror elements.
