Crystal Lake creator rejects supernatural fan theories

Series creator Brad Caleb Kane has addressed fan theories regarding the upcoming Peacock prequel series, ‘Crystal Lake’. Following the release of a trailer, viewers speculated that the show might transform Jason Voorhees into a government-created super soldier, drawing comparisons to the sci-fi elements of ‘Stranger Things’.

Kane clarified that the series will remain grounded in reality rather than leaning into supernatural or sci-fi tropes. He noted that the story is set in the 1960s and 1970s and explores themes of institutional mistrust. The show serves as an origin story for Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, focusing on her grief following the drowning of her son, Jason, and the subsequent murderous consequences.

While the series will provide certain explanations regarding the masked killer, Kane emphasized that the narrative is its own distinct entity within the ‘Friday the 13th’ universe.
