Crystal Lake horror prequel series premieres on Peacock
The horror prequel series ‘Crystal Lake’, produced by A24, premiered on Peacock on October 15, 2026. The eight-episode series explores the origins of the Friday the 13th franchise, focusing on the psychological descent of Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, following the drowning of her son, Jason.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has introduced several changes to the established lore, including shifting the timeline of Jason’s death from the 1950s to the early 1970s. The series also reinterprets the original film's killings, suggesting that a character named Grace was responsible for the initial attack on camp counselors, though Pamela later intervened to finish the crimes.
While the series features intense practical special effects and gore, Kane noted in interviews that attempts to include more nudity were overruled by network standards. Although a second season has not been officially confirmed by Peacock, Kane has expressed interest in expanding the story to explore the broader mysteries of the town and its residents, citing ‘Twin Peaks’ as a potential tonal influence.
