Crystal Lake prequel series to debut on Peacock, inspired by Finnish Lake Bodom murder

A24 and Peacock are set to launch the Friday the 13th prequel series "Crystal Lake" on October 15, 2026. The show will stream in the United States on Peacock, in the United Kingdom on Sky Atlantic and NowTV, and in Mexico via Universal+. Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela Voorhees, with Callum Vinson playing a young Jason.

The series explores Pamela's life after the death of her son, shifting focus from Jason to the mother’s motives. While the character is fictional, the storyline incorporates elements from the real 1960 Lake Bodom murders in Espoo, Finland, where three teenagers were killed and the case remains unsolved. Cardellini described the role as a chance to explore a previously unexplored part of the franchise’s mythos.
